Year 1

Welcome to Year 1, Lowry Class! We are a class of joyful 5 and 6 year olds, with our teacher Miss Church and wonderful LSAs Mrs Sibley and Miss Waller.

A key word for Year 1 is transition – this is the children’s first year in Key Stage 1 and we know how important this transition is. The hands-on approach of EYFS is embedded throughout our learning, as well as helping children feel ready for their next step as they reach Year 2 the following September.

We follow a concept-led curriculum, and have a lot of fun with our key concepts which include identity, hope and unity. Spending time learning outside, jumping around to our daily dance routines or playing inventively in our role play area are all favourite parts of the children’s days. Keeping our lovely little ones feeling safe and calm is vital and we use lots of strategies for emotional regulation – our Calm Corner is very popular!

Our year in Lowry Class is filled with memorable opportunities: trips to the FAST Museum, local Church and Boscombe Beach; class assemblies and nativities; visiting workshops for first aid, music and drama as well as lessons that aim to keep children laughing, discovering and learning!
